Education Scenario of the District:-

The Education Department is providing free Education facilities, but due to hilly/militancy related activities, the Education setup in the District has remained upset and most of the Primary/ Upper Primary/ Secondary/ Hr Secondary schools in the rural area have been affected because the teaching staff posted there was reluctant to perform their duties regularly in such areas. This phenomenon has adversely affected the education of the children in the rural area, but Government has started “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mission” in the District with the introduction of this scheme it was hoped that the Schools in remote areas will become functional and in-fact condition has improved to a great extent.

However the Education scenario of the District can be divided into three phases i.e. Pre Independence, Post Independence and late seventies till date. After independence Educational activities in the District took a new direction in the state but this district remained neglected as compared to other Districts of the J&K State due to weak political will. A sound Educational foundation couldn’t be laid and also a vision didn’t originate in common man. In late seventies Government took a positive step & initiated some changes in the Educational scenario of the District, but some area of the District still remained neglected. In early eighties a Degree College was set up and some private Institutions were opened in the District. These steps gave a chance to people to come forward in this field. Education sector got a real boost in the District with implementation of “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mission”. Now the literacy rate is increasing day by day.
